UKCA Type Examination for machinery placed on the UK market

UKCA Type Examination for machinery placed on the UK market

UKCA marking of products became optional from 1st January 2021 and is mandatory from 1st January 2027.

A number of product regulations transposing EU directives have been updated by a new Statutory Instrument, The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019. These regulations have made changes to the administrative parts of compliance and left the technical parts of compliance the same. The main changes for machinery are:

Declarations of Conformity need to reference UK Regulations and designated standards instead of EU Directives and harmonised standards.
Machinery needs to be marked with the UKCA mark.
Machinery listed in Schedule 2 Part 4 (Annex IV) of the regulations needs certification by a UK Approved Body instead of an EU Notified Body.
